Helicopter JV established

New air venture to support Sakhalin oil industry offshore

According to a report in Itar-TASS, a Russian-US joint venture, Aviashelf, has been created on Sakhalin, in the far east of Russia, as an air service for companies developing offshore oil and gas fields. The new carrier has already been used to ferry shift teams of oilmen, by helicopter, from the northern settlement of Nogliki to the Vityaz production platform, belonging to Sakhalin Energy, an operator of the Sakhalin 2 oil project. Potential demand for the air service looks promising, given that the Molikpak oil platform lies 16km offshore and that the number of oil rigs is increasing year-on-year.
