Published: 2/3/2000

Turkmen Airlines (TA), Turkmenistan"s national carrier, has signed a $28.6m agreement with French company, Thomson CSF, to modernise the air traffic control (ATC) systems at Turkmenabata Airport (formerly Chardzou Airport). According to TA, the deal would be financed from its own resources and 20% would be paid in advance. Under a presidential decree, the deal will not be subject to any tax or duty. In 1998, Thomson CSF equipped Ashhabad Airport in a deal worth $22.3m. In July last year, the French company signed an agreement valued at $27.7m to modernise the navigation systems at Turkmenbashi Airport (formerly Krasnovodsk Airport), located on the Caspian Sea.
