Boeing reduces the number of new F-18 s on offer

Polish money not enough for 60 new fighters according to Boeing

Published: 2/23/2000

According to Boeing, it is now proposing to sell 60 F/A-18E/F fighters to Poland, including 12-18 used aircraft. In June 1999, the Economics Ministry asked foreign defence companies to provide information on the terms of purchase of 60 new multi-role combat fighters for the Polish Air Force. At that time, Boeing had proposed the sale of 60 new F/A-18E/Fs and the lease of seven others. However, Boeing claims that the Polish government's budget of $1.5 billion for the programme is not enough for new fighters. Reports in September 1999 suggested that the Polish Air Force is faced with the fact that 60 multi-role fighters are inadequate to meet future needs. It is now grappling with the problems of an aircraft shortfall and the government's reluctance to pursue upgrade options. Associated articles: www.concise.org. 10th August 1999; 29th September 1999
