LG Corporation adds An-38 to its marketing portfolio

An-38 continues to find customers

Published: 2/23/2000

After the recent announcement of their marketing agreement with Sukhoi regarding the selling of the An-38 internationally, it has been reported that NAPO has signed an agreement with South Korean conglomerate LG to market the An-38 in the South Korean market. Under the agreement, LG will carry out promotional work for the aircraft during 2000, continuing its highly successful track record of selling Kamov helicopters to Korean operators. According to reports from Interfax, the Koreans may receive a search and rescue version of the An-38, for which there is a current requirement for in South Korea, and is one of the fitting options offered by NAPO. It is not clear however, what power plant the aircraft may be fitted with, but there are a number of options available including the standard Allied Signal TPE331s or the Russian TVD 20 and TVD-1500, the latter more likely in the search and rescue version. The $4 m aircraft has recently been sold to Alrosa-Avia with three aircraft due to be delivered in 2000 under a contract to provide five aircraft and the prospect of a potential Indian contract remains. NAPO believes it has the capacity to produce up to fifty planes a year. Associated articles: www.concise.org 9th April 1999; 22nd June 1999; 17th September 1999;1st February 2000
