10 helicopter order for Mi-17
Published:
4/12/2000
According to local reports, the Malaysian Ministry of Defence has completed its evaluation of replacements for the S-61A Nuri helicopters for the Malaysian Air Force and has decided that the Mi-17 is most likely to be selected.
The contract, reported to be for 40 helicopters, will be awarded to the Mi-17 (Mi-8SMT),so long as the producer can answer questions concerning the helicopter's performance,
according to Nadjib Razdak of the Malaysian Ministry of Defence. Radzak added that the initial order will be for 10 helicopters, although he was less clear about the value of the contract and the 'performance ' issues. The Turkish Air Force, while complimentary about the economy and the reliability of the Mi-17, has complained about build quality.
