Business terminal opens at Vnukovo

Moscow city support enables completion of project

Published: 4/12/2000

On 11th April, a general aviation terminal was opened at Vnukovo Airport in Moscow. The terminal, which was started in 1998, but delayed due to the financial crisis, is separate from the main passenger terminal and has its own access road from the M-3 motorway. The business terminal is owned by Vnukovo-Invest, a joint-stock company that was formed by a number of Russian banks, state and industrial organizations, in order to complete construction of the terminal on property owned by the Russian space company, RKK Energia. RKK Energia operates its own executive airline, with a fleet of four Tu-134s and a number of other aircraft. The facility will be operated by the Avia-Business-Terminal oint stock company, headed by Yuri Tikhonov. According to Tikhonov, the terminal began operations last month, ahead of the official opening in April. He added that the Moscow city government had been instrumental in getting the project completed and that Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov will use the terminal. The 480 sq.m terminal also has access to aircraft parking in the large hangars of the nearby Vnukovo Aircraft Repair Plant no.400.
