Estonian Air proposed use of uncertified Fokker presented as reason for dispute

Tallinn and Moscow look for solution

Published: 4/6/2000

It appears that the problems relating to the flights from Tallinn to Moscow, which resulted in the suspension of connections between the two centres was a result of a dispute over aircraft used by Estonian Air on the route. According to reports, the Estonian flag carrier decided to change its aircraft from Boeing 737 to Fokker 50s, an aircraft that the FSVT were unfamiliar with and had not certified for use in Russia. According to Alexander Belousov of Elk Airways the other carrier on the route, the problem purely relates to the use of these aircraft and if Estonian Air removed them it would resolve the problem. The dispute however, continues and the Estonian Prime Minister Mart Laar said that he is seeking to resolve the tangle of interests in the current situation and restore the link. There is a meeting between the two aviation authorities scheduled for the 24th April.
