Successful test landings for Il-76 and Tu-154

An Il-76, operated by East Line, has landed at Khanty-Mansiysk airport in Siberia, for the first time, as part of an exercise to test the new capabilities of the runway. Similar flight tests were also made by a Tu-154. Both were satisfactory. Tu-154 aircraft are now expected to fly to Khanty-Mansiysk and East Line is reported to be in negotiations on making regular cargo flights to the airport.
The 1 billion ruble ($40m) reconstruction project, which is expected to be completed by 2003, when the city will host the biathlon World Cup, will include a new passenger terminal and services.
The Il-76, from Luxembourg, via Domodedovo, was carrying 21 tons of construction materials, lighting and power equipment for the biathlon center, supplied by the Canadian company, Valens Construction.
