Yak-40 accident

FSVT investigation underway

Published: 6/27/2000

On 14th June, a Sakhaavia Yak-40, en route from Neryungri to Yakutsk with 26 passengers on board, had a fire in one engine immediately after takeoff. The engine was shut down and the aircraft landed safely on two engines. An investigation by the regional FSVT is underway. Elsewhere, the management of Sakhaavia has decided not to extend the lease after 1st July of one of its Tu-154Ms to Vnukovo Airlines, which is operating the aircraft on a wet lease in Iran. The airline will also not renew the leases in December of two Il-76s currently leased to AviaAs. The airline will however, receive assistance from the Government of Yakutiya in the overhaul of five An-2s that have been waiting for repairs at repair plants in Omsk and Khabarovsk for several months. The motivation for this government intervention is the necessity to service remote communities in the huge region.
