Azerbaijan-UK negotiations

Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two countries

Published: 7/11/2000

Azerbaijan and the UK, in the form of Sheila Evans of the UK's Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions, and Djahanangir Askerov of Azerbaijan's Azerbaijan Hava Yollary, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding concerning aviation relations between the two countries. The negotiations covered a broad range of related topics, with agreement that a designated carrier on the route would be able to make up to seven passenger/cargo or cargo flights a week. The two parties also agreed that each would be responsible for checking documentation of passengers travelling between the two countries at the point of departure. As part of the release of information from the Azerbaijan authorities, it was made clear that the government had stopped levying air transport related taxes on airlines since early May, and then demanding their payment in cash, thus removing a major point of contention for foreign operators using Azerbaijan's airports.
