Consolidation of Russian aerospace industry
|
Is the long-awaited restructuring imminent? (140 words)
Published:
8/21/2000
In an interview on a Russian radio station, Alexander Dondukov reopened the post-selection speculation on the consolidation of the aerospace industry in Russia, by suggesting that Russia may establish 'vertically integrated aircraft development holdings'.
In the interview Dondukov said that there was a need to produce 'dramatically new aircraft and helicopters', both for the aerospace market and to allow the Russian armed forces to renew their fleets over the coming ten years with competitive products.
The comments from Dondukov do not differ markedly from those of both Putin and Klebanov before the election, as always we will have to wait and see, but given aggressive moves by the Putin administration elsewhere in the federal government and in the military, perhaps the long awaited restructuring may be imminent.
