Volga Dnepr commences missile deliveries

Tor-M1 anti aircraft missile systems delivered to Greece on schedule (160 words)

Published: 8/25/2000

Volga-Dnepr Airlines has started on schedule the programme of deliveries of the TOR-M1 (Sa-15) anti aircraft missile system to Greece, and began carrying the systems from Ulyanovsk to Thessaloniki on the 22nd August. VD is using its new An-124-100, which was delivered in August, for the seven flights required to deliver the complete systems. The systems are carried on 35 tonne tracked vehicles with support vehicles, which are being driven on to the aircraft. It is unclear just how many systems are being delivered, but earlier reports suggested that four systems out of the 21 ordered would be delivered, but in three not seven flights. In addition to providing airlift, VD reports that it has organised the whole logistics chain. Including offloading the missile systems from the railway carriages bringing them from their producer, the Kupol Electrical Engineering Plant, storage, preparation for air transportation and customs clearance to offloading at Thessaloniki. Associated articles Tor-M1 deliveries draw near 17th June 1999
