Su-24 orders from Algeria
|
22 aircraft to be delivered by end of next summer (170 words)
Published:
10/16/2000
Promexport's General Director Serguay Chemezov has signed an agreement with Algeria on the 12th October for the delivery of 22 Su-24 to Algeria for around $120 m.
The contract is on a tight delivery schedule with the first two aircraft to be delivered at the end of October, with the balance of the aircraft delivered by the summer of 2001. Ten aircraft are reported to be currently undergoing pre delivery checks at NAPO. It seems likely to meet the schedule that the aircraft's producer NAPO will be delivering aircraft already reserved for the Russian Air Force including ten aircraft reported to have been ordered from NAPO on the 2nd October 2000.
NAPO has upgraded Su-24s for Algeria recently, with three of the ten aircraft originally delivered to the North African country upgraded last year.In addition to the aircraft Algeria is also reported to be buying Orion military radar from Belgorod's Spetsradio, rocket systems from Perm's Motovilikhinskie Works, X-35 air to surface missiles made by Korolev's Zvezda-Strela.
