Ikar Airlines commences new routes

An-140 flights scheduled from Kiev to various destinations (135 words)

Published: 3/9/2001

Local press reports indicate that Ikar Airlines, based in Kiev, is due to start scheduled An-140 services on 8th March, from Kiev to Kharkov, Simferopol and Lvov. Ikar, associated with the aircraft's producer, the Kharkov Aviation Plant (KhGAPP), currently has only one aircraft, substantially less than the ten reported to have been ordered in January 2000. The airline is nevertheless, anticipating using the An-140 airframes at KhGAPP, although some commentators doubt the ability of Ikar's owner, the Kharkov Trade Company, to fund the purchases. The Ukrainian developments do however, come in tandem with the ongoing development of the locally assembled aircraft in Iran, the IRAN-140, that has recently rolled-out and is expected in service this year according to Iranian media reports.
