Air Malta move from Sheremetyevo (145 words)
Published:
4/4/2001
Domodedovo Airport has announced that Air Malta is to switch its operations from Shermetyevo Airport to the airport joining Transaero that recently announced its move.
While the Air Malta move in itself is not significant, flying only one flight a week to Malta's Luka Airport off season and two in the vacation period of July and August. It does mark the first move by a Western airline and coming so soon after the Transaero move, must lead to speculation that it could be joined by others.
Western airlines both large and small have complained about the quality of service and costs at Shermetyevo and have been reported as being impressed by the quality of the new Domodedovo terminal, which is reported to offer better "commercial terms " according to Robert Obolgogiani, Air Malta's representative in Moscow. To date the major foreign airlines reported as being in discussions with the East Line Group controlled airport, have been Swissair and Lufthansa.
