Air Kazakhstan restores Chinese link

Xinjiang province seen as source of transit passengers (92 words)

Published: 4/12/2001

Air Kazakhstan is going to resume flights to the Xinjiang province on the route Almaty-Urumqi. The flight was suspended two years ago. Air Kazakhstan spokesman Dmitry Dushimov commented that Xinjiang Airlines had stopped operating its fleet of 5 Tu-154s, which were used for flights to Almaty, leaving only its Boeing-757 on the route, that could not be utilized profitably over the 1,000 kms between Almaty and Urumqi. In reopening the connection Air Kazakhstan hopes to attract more passengers from Xinjiang province, into Almaty Airport for onward connection to other long distance destinations.
