Tu-134 upgrade programme underway (102 words)

Published: 5/2/2001

Albanian Airlines, owned by the Kharafi Group of Kuwait, has acquired its first western-built jet - a BAe 146-200 - as part of a programme to upgrade its fleet of four Tu-134s, wet leased from Bulgaria's Hemus Air. The new aircraft will replace one of the Tu-134s and a subsequent aircraft from BAe is planned for delivery next year as a replacement for another of the Tu-134s. The 15 year old aircraft will be maintained and operated by Hemus and will operate on routes from Tirana to Bologna, Frankfurt, Istanbul, Pristina and Zurich.
