VAL-Sibir merger provides lucrative overhaul for VASO (112 words)
Published:
5/27/2001
According to unconfirmed press reports, the VAL-Sibir merger will slow OAO Tupolev's development of the $120,000-$130,000 Tu-54 single seat agricultural aircraft, because of the requirement to overhaul a VAL Il-86 at the VASO plant designated to produce the Tu-54.
However, it would seem that the overhaul should provide the $2m required to certify the Tu-54 and move it into production at VASO. VASO will overhaul VAL's Il-86 at its facilities in Voronezh, with financing provided by Rosbank, to be repaid by VAL out of the aircraft's operating revenues; the Il-86 being pledged to Rosbank in the interim period.
