Archangelsk Airlines reports bullish figures

Positive, but partial picture painted (141 words)

Published: 7/26/2001

Archangelsk Airlines (AVL) has reported that it increased passenger numbers by 10.2% in the first half of 2001, carrying 76,953 passengers. Cargo also increased by 44.7% to 463.2 tonnes, with load factors up to 58.4%, from 56.6%. According to Arina Krivitskaya of AVL, the increase was largely attributable to the increase of flight frequencies on the Naryan Mar - Moscow route and the introduction of new Apatity - Moscow - Sochi route. Krivitskaya added that the company had moved into profit in the first half of 2001, claiming, although without providing further details, that some of AVL's financial ratios are better than of Aeroflot's. She also said that AVL, which is 100% owned by the state, is being considered for privatisation, but the final decision is yet to be made and the timetable set. .
