Saransk Airport re-opens

$3.3m upgrade now completed, refurbishing runways, terminal apron and lighting (94 words)

Published: 10/27/2001

Saransk Airport has been re-opened following a $3.3m upgrade of the runways, terminal apron and lighting. Anatoly Zakharov, General Director of Saransk State Aviation Enterprise (Saransk Airlines), said that the reconstruction of the airport and the runway would enable the airport to handle significantly larger aircraft than in the past with its 2,801m runway and that no major works should now be required for at least 15 years. Regular flights from Saransk will be resumed in November, the first being Saransk-Moscow.
