Carrier benefits from significant hikes in passenger and cargo traffic during 9mo01 (212 words)
Published:
11/14/2001
State-owned Archangelsk Airlines (AVL) has reported that, in January-September 2001, the company carried 147,577 passengers: an increase of 22.0% compared to the same period in 2000. The company also carried 42.2% more cargo than in the first nine months of 2000 at 667.2 tonnes, reflecting the expansion of its freight activities involving both goods and documents in 2001, with plans to expand further announced in September 2001.
According to a company spokesperson, the increase in passengers was primarily attributable to the high traffic on the Archangelsk - Anapa and Archangelsk - Sochi routes and the opening of two new routes: Apatity - Moscow - Sochi and Apatity - Moscow - Anapa. This has allowed the airline to increase significantly the utilisation of its Tu-154, Tu-134 and An-26 over the first nine months of 2000. The Tu-154 and Tu-134 spent 66.3% more hours in the air than in January-September 2001, and the An-26 spent 68.7% more hours in the air than a year ago.
The nine-month figures represent a considerable Y-O-Y acceleration from the figures at 1H01, when passenger numbers had increased by 10.2% to 76,953 passengers, although cargo had already increased by 44.7% to 463.2 tonnes.
