1505 launch from Plesetsk

Resource satellite launched from Plesetsk

Published: 10/5/1999

On September 29th, the Soyuz-U carrier rocket launched resource monitoring satellite, Resource -F1M from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome. The launch was undertaken by crews of the Strategic Missile Force and was the 1505th launching from Plesetsk. The Chairman of Federation Council, Egor Stroev, who took part in the launch ceremony, said that Plesetsk, which was founded in 1957, now played a pivotal role in Russia's space industry. This year, Russia moved a number of space programmes from Baikonur to Plesetsk, particularly the launch of telecom and weather satellites, which contribute to the Ministry of Defence research programmes.
