New flights from Karelia

Steel company airline initiates new route to Helsinki

Published: 2/21/2000

The Karelian Government has asked the FSVT to approve a scheduled flight from Cherepovets (Vologda region), 300 kms north of Moscow, to Petrozavodsk and on to Helsinki. The flight will be operated by an airline belonging to the regional steel maker, Severstal. The republic is also considering another route to Finland by Archangelsk Airlines, which currently operates a route in Karelia from Kirovsk- Petrozavodsk-Moscow. According to local press reports, the government believes that the restoration of flights will help create some local competition for flights and attract passengers, so leading to a better air transport service for the republic.
