Ukrainian airport yields high profits

Borispol announces 1999 results

Published: 3/3/2000

Ukraine Airport yields high profits/ Borispol International Airport in the Ukraine has reported passenger traffic totalling 1.3m in 1999. According to Viktor Machutsky, acting General Manager of the airport, some 41% of passengers were carried by foreign airlines. Airport revenues are reported as being $30m over the period, with profits totalling $12.5m. A high margin given that airports in Russia and the Ukraine are subject to tariff regulation, in order to protect airlines form unscrupulous airport operators. However, state permission may be granted to allow substantial levels of profitability in order to finance modernisation programmes, which may be the case here. A spokesperson for Borispol Airport confirmed the accuracy of the figures but declined to provide any further details.
