Germans to buy Polish glider plant

Aviontech company is to buy the bankrupt PZL Bielsko glider plant

Published: 3/31/2000

This announcement follows media reports in January this year that both the Hamburg-based Aviontech and a Polish company, Drogbud from Zory, had expressed interest in buying the bankrupt PZL Bielsko glider factory at Bielsko-Biala in southern Poland. The company entered bankruptcy after the collapse of partnership talks with Austrian light aircraft producer Diamond Aircraft Industries. Although these reports estimated that the company was being sold for 11.5m zlotys ($2.7m), PZL Bielsko"s receiver Andrzej Sikora gave no details of the price paid by Aviontech but did say that the company was planning to invest in the plant. The purchase is to be officially concluded by 30th April. Formerly a state-owned company, PZL Bielsko mainly produced and repaired gliders. www.concise.org 4th January 2000: Polish glider sale
