New route exploits Estonian route liberalisation
Published:
3/29/2000
Copter Action Estonia plans to open a regular helicopter service from the Estonian capital Tallin to Helsinki using two Sikorsky S-76Cs in a 12-seat configuration.
The first helicopter has been delivered to Helsinki according to reports and the company is currently constructing a terminal on the roof of the Tallinna Linnahall concert arena, allowing them to start flights in the late spring.
The 85km route will be covered in 18 minutes and fly 12 times a day, making it possible with check in to get from the centre of each city to the other in 45 minutes, at a cost of 2,500 crowns for a one way ticket.
The service is starting against a background of the opening of the route for competition, under amendments to a 1993 agreement covering air connection between the two countries. Currently only Finnair and Estonian Air have the right to carry passengers between the two cities. Estonian Air however, have announced they do not intend to operate during the summer months because of the competition from catamaran and hydrofoil ferries, which make up to twenty crossings a day.
