An-12 crashes in storm

Six die in crash in Sri Lanka

An An-12 of from Omsk airline Antei Aoot, has crashed in Thailand en route from Thailand to Colombo, Sri Lanka. Carrying 18 tons of clothing, the aircraft was reported to be within its payload limits of 20 tons and according to sources had sufficient life limits. The aircraft crashed after running short of fuel while circling Colombo Airport waiting for weather to clear. Attempting to land in zero visibility and a thunderstorm, the aircraft struck some houses close to the airport and crashed with the loss of five crew and one passenger. The captain and the co-pilot survived and along with three local residents were hospitalized. The cargo only airline operates five An-12Bs and has been involved in international cargo since 1996.
