Croatian MiG-21 upgrade programme is put on the slow track

Croatians decide to delay while new government re-examines contract

Published: 3/8/2000

The agreement signed by the governments of Croatia and Israel in February of last year appears to have been put on ice, after comments from Defence Minister Jozo Rados suggested that the $100m contract would be re-examined by the new government. According to reports, recent talks with the Israeli Deputy Defence Minister Ephraim Sneh, failed to resolve the issue of upgrading Romania's fleet of 35 Mi-21bis and the Croatian side had decided to take some time to review the contract although it remained in force. The main contractors for the deal where reported to have been IAI and Elbit.
