DASA will win, but timetable slides
Published:
3/8/2000
The Hungarian daily newspaper, Vilaggazdasag, has reported that the expected government decision on the MiG tender should be made within the next two weeks. DaimlerChrysler Aerospace (DASA), in collaboration with RSK MiG, in the German-registered MAPS consortium, is widely expected to win the HUF 1 billion ($3.85m) contract. It has established a local partnership with Dunai Repulogepyar Rt, a Hungarian aircraft manufacturer, which will participate in the upgrade project. Late last month, Viaggazdasag reported that the first MiG-29 upgrade could happen as early as April this year. It is now quoting a timescale of mid-2001, despite the fact that MiG-21 aircraft will have to be withdrawn from circulation next year.
