The plant plans to produce 100 engines in 2000
Published:
5/17/2000
Peter Izotov, the chief designer of the Klimov engine design and production state entity, has reported that the company is increasing its number of shifts due to higher demand. According Izotov, the testing station of the plant will be moving to work three shifts, with the plant working two and the design department one and a half shifts on a six day a week basis.
The plant plans to produce 100 engines this year including RD-33s for the MiG-29Ks ordered by India and for the steady production of Kamov and Mil helicopters, with Mil anticipating 50 sales this year of aircraft produced by the helicopter plants at Kazan and Ulan Ude. Since the beginning of the year the plant has produced 25 new engines and repaired 20, a greater number according to Izotov than the much larger Zaporozhye plant of Motor Sich in the Ukraine,
The plant's primary products are the Klimov TV3-117 turbo shaft series used to power the full range of Kamov and Mil helicopters, including the Ka-50 and Mi-28 attack helicopters and TV7-117S, which has been fitted to the Il-114 with less success. According to the Chief Designer, the plant also now undertakes a much broader range of repair work on TV3-117s and the growing revenue has considerably improved the plant's cash flow, allowing them to fund work on their continuing developments of the VK-3500, VK-3000(TV7-117V) and VK-2500 (TV3-117VMA-SB3) turbo prop and turbo shaft engines.
