Kazakhstan airline flights

Zhetysu starts scheduled flights between major cities

Published: 5/23/2000

Kazakhstan airline Zhetysu is to begin a twice-weekly scheduled flight between the country's principal cities Alma-Ata-, Balkhash and Altana, according to the country's information agency. In April the airline, based in Taldy-Kurgen, launched a flight to Altana and Alma-Ata, with a Yak-40, flying twice a week. Zhetysu's Valery Shishov, Vice President of the OAO Aviation Company, said that the airline currently operates four Yak-40s, two of which are based in Taldy-Kurgan. He said that the aircraft have been well maintained and upgraded to give higher level of both comfort and safety, making them the airline favoured by government officers and foreigners when flying in the region. One suspects however, that given the unreliability of Kazak air travel they may be the only scheduled airline in the region.
