The US Trade and Development Agency has granted $110,000 to the Kazakhstan air traffic control entity Kazaeronavigatsiya for a feasibility study on the modernisation of Kazakhstan's ATC.
The agreement, signed on 27th April by Richard Jones, US ambassador to Kazakhstan, and Serik Burkitbayev, Minister of Transport and Communications of Kazakhstan, brings the total of the TDA's investments in Kazakhstan to $1m in 2000.
Kazakhstan has a vast territory and a number of large airports that require modern systems of managing the air traffic. The feasibility study will allow the ATC agency to make an inventory of the existing ATC systems and develop a new structure, according to the TDA.
At a seminar on the 15th May in Almaty in Kazakhstan, at the request of ICAO, delegates from Russia, Georgia, Ukraine, Estonia, Latvia, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Tadjikistan, and Kyrghizia shared experiences in flight safety, coordination in flight planning, the introduction of international standards and upgrading of equipment. Serguey Kulnazarov , General Manager of Kazaeronavigatsiya, said that Kazakhstan is planning to increase the number of international transit flights over and landing in the country.
