While allowing Sibir to sell Lufthansa tickets however, the agreement does not cover the tickets under the Star Alliance, which can only be issued by Lufthansa and will be sold through the German airline's Novosibirsk office.
Under the agreement, Sibir and Lufthansa will guarantee Sibir passengers tickets on the routes which research has revealed are the most actively used by Sibir customers These include Berlin, Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Munich, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Brussels, London, Paris and Rome in Europe, and in the USA, Los Angeles, New York, Miami, San Francisco.
As part of the preparation for the agreement, the two sides undertook extensive negotiations including the recommendation from Lufthansa to the International Clearing House that Sibir be offered clearing membership.
According to Vladislav Filev, General Director of Sibir, Lufthansa decided to deal with Sibir because
· Sibir has a significant presence in flights to Germany with 20 flights a week in the summer period from Novosibirsk, Omsk and Moscow.
· Sibir has worked successfully with Lufthansa under an interline agreement with Lufthansa Cargo since July 1998 .
· all Sibir's ticket offices have modern automated ticketing and booking systems, which meet international standards.
