Ukraine's passenger traffic

Rise for private airlines but fall for state-owned entities

Published: 7/13/2000

UNIAN (Ukrainian informational agency) has released the figures for traffic for Ukrainian airlines in the first quarter of 2000 using data from a variety of sources including the airlines themselves, the Ministry of Transport and Goskomstat (State Statistics Committee). The three largest Ukrainian airlines, Ukraine International Airlines, AeroSvit (Aerosweet) and Air Ukraine carried 116,700 passengers or 50% of all passengers carried by Ukrainian airlines in the period. Ukraine International Airlines carried 42,200 passengers, AeroSvit 41,000 passengers, and Air Ukraine 33,500 passengers. Total traffic for the first quarter was 232,400 passengers, up by 9.4% on the first quarter of 1999. Despite the overall growth of the air transport sector, the state-owned airlines saw their traffic fall by 8.7%, while privately owned airlines increased traffic by 38.9%.
