Tu-154 accident

Hydraulic system suspected (100 words)

Published: 7/14/2000

A Tyumenaviatrans Tu-154 flight from Surgut to Krasnodar experienced difficulties five minutes after takeoff on the morning flight of 7th July. At an altitude of 600m, the hydraulic system alarms indicated a fault with the aircraft's hydraulic pump. The back up pumps kicked in and the pilot circled the airport to burn off fuel before attempting a successful landing. The landing presented a greater challenge using the auxiliary pumps, which reduce the Tu-154's responsiveness. The aircraft's passengers were disembarked and sent onto Krasnodar in a replacement aircraft, arriving four hours later than scheduled.
