Kommersant story says de-icing fluid contaminating area's water supply (160 words)

Sheremetyevo Airport has rejected claims information published in Kommersant that the airport maybe closed in September because the authorities have ecological concerns about the de-icing fluid used by the airport during the winter. The concern centres on the leeching of the liquid into the ground water and the nearby Klyazma River and Klyazma water storage facility. While the airport accepts that neither it, responsible for drainage, nor Aeroflot responsible for spraying, can guarantee that there is no leakage given the age of facilities and funding that is available. The problem has been with them for some time and they are working on solutions, so there is no justification for closure at this point. According to the airport, which handles 70% of the city's international and 50% of its domestic traffic, the reports are part of a campaign to bring pressure of public opinion to stop the development of the airport's third terminal.
