New Israeli carriers indicate interest in Moscow route

Israir and Arkia take advantage of new slots (180 words)

Published: 9/4/2000

Following the agreement on the introduction of more Israeli carriers on the Moscow-Tel Aviv route, two Israeli airlines have said they are interested in flying to Russia. On 3rd November, Israir will open bi-weekly flights between Tel Aviv - Moscow and will be reportedly joined on the route by Arkia later in the year. For Transaero the quick take-up by competing carriers on the route can only further inflame its already vehement opposition to the expansion of carriers on the route. It claims that the agreement is illegal as it was signed by Pavel Rozhkov of the FSVT, on 17th July who, on this date had no authority given that the FSVT was reorganised on 17th May. Pavel was not appointed to his new post within the Ministry of Transport that subsumed the duties of the civil aviation authority. The authorities are however, ignoring Transaero's complaints suggesting that the cozy relationship of El Al and Transaero as the sole scheduled carriers on the route is at an end.
