US Firm tenders to build second terminal at Warsaw-Okecie Airport

US engineers tenders for Okecie without Polish partner (200 words)

Published: 10/4/2000

The US firm HNTB, a late comer to the expected tenderers for Warsaw Okecie airport's second terminal, has submitted a tender to design and build the new terminal with an annual passenger capacity of 6.5 million. The tender, announced in August, includes building the complete technical infrastructure, aprons and underground stattion. The work is to be completed within three years of the contract being signed. HNTB's competitors in the two-stage $350m tender managed by Porty Lotnicze, are the Spanish contractors Ferrovial and its Polish partner Budimex, Acciona and Polish builder Mostostal Warsazawa and Sweden's Skanska with its Polish partner Exbud. Given local opinion that the deal would go to a Polish contractor with foreign partners, the HNTB bid is some what unexpected as it appears to be a solely HNTB effort. HNTB is also involved in a tender for a second terminal at the Cracow-Belice airport and is undertaking negotiations with the Polish government over plans to build new motorways.
