Published: 10/10/2000

On the 3rd of October, a Tu-154M with 75 passengers on board flying from Vnukovo to Irkutsk , reported problems with the aircraft's hydraulic system right before landing at Irkutsk. After dumping its remaining fuel, the aircraft landed safely with passengers unaware of the danger. The problems of the Tu-154M hydraulics come after similar problems on a Sibir Tu-154B taking off at Tomsk, were the departure was abandoned because of the failure of the aircraft's secondary hydraulic system, which required the replacement of the aircraft, overhauled in April 1999, hydraulic pump. Elsewhere, during the take-off of an Il-96-300 flying from Delhi to Moscow, two tyres on the main landing gear exploded damaging the aircraft's underside. The crew of the aircraft was unaware of the loss of the tyres and it was only discovered when ground crew at Dehli literally stumbled over the debris on the ground and made the crew aware of the problem. The aircraft with 200 passengers on board was recalled and landed safely. The damage to the aircraft was a metre wide hole in the fuselage at the rear of the aircraft, which had occurred without decompression of the cabin, but according to reports with no warning to the crew.
