Published: 11/2/2000

Sibir has reported that on the 31st October 2000 it delivered 1180kg of cargo from Barnaul to Baghdad. The cargo containing humanitarian aid was organised by a charity for children suffering from leukaemia. In addition to the cargo the flight was reported to have carried 49 passengers visiting a trade fair.

According to Sibir the flight was organised by the Altai Region and Altai Airlines, the operator of the airport, chartered the aircraft. The flight is scheduled to return on the 3rd of November.

The Sibir flight according to the airline, over flew Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Iran to reach its destination, as it was prevented form overlying Turkey because of the UN sanctions. The airline says that they do not have any further charters and do not intend to start regular flights to Baghdad.
