Looks for further cargo opportunities (130 words)

Published: 11/23/2000

Lufthansa representative Ronald Shultz has told the Nizhegorodsky Regional Governor Ivan Sklyarov that the airline will begin flying an additional weekly flight to Nizhni Novgorod from March 2001. At present, after cuts in 1998, there are two weekly flights using an A-319. The two sides are reported to have agreed to cooperate on the acquisition of specialist handling equipment for the airport Nizhny Novgorod in cooperation with Tatarstan, which requires access to additional cargo capacity given the low level of combi traffic though Kazan. The new equipment will allow the airline to operate larger aircraft carrying containerised cargo requiring ground handling equipment such as high loaders. Ahead of the development of an air cargo terminal on the Volga and Oka Rivers, which is due to open by 2003.
