Scheduled route to Japan for Russian airline (125 words)
Published:
3/15/2001
Sakhalin Airlines (SAT), in Russia's Far East, has announced the opening up of a route between Sakhalin and Japan in early May. The new route will fly from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk to Sapporo on Hokkaido in northern Japan, delivering Russian passengers for transit onto other destinations in South East Asia.
Initially, the flights to Sappora will be weekly (using an An-24) and increased to twice a week in the summer season. Flights to Hakodate will also be twice weekly.
The announcement of the new routes follows the commencement of limited flights from the Japanese mainland by the airline late last year, to the disputed Kurile Islands for Japanese former residents.
