New Boeings for Uzbekistan Airways

The airline remains committed to building a foreign fleet, at a price! (149 words)

Published: 3/21/2001

Uzbekistan Airways (Uzbekiston Havo Yollari) has signed leases for delivery of two new Boeing 767-300ER airliners, powered by PW4062 engines. There was a week of negotiations prior to the contract signing on 16th March, which agreed seemingly good terms for the Central Asian carrier, for the aircraft leasing from Boeing and for a delivery date during 2002/2003. The new aircraft will join two leased Boeing 767-330ERs with the same P&W engines. Sources did indicate that the carrier did not take a backup engine, so increasing its vulnerability to downtime in the event of an engine problem or even scheduled maintenance. According to Arslan Ruzmetov, the airline's General Director, the building of its Boeing fleet, now numbering 5 aircraft, has allowed the airline to expand its routes with the inclusion of long hauls to Japan and Canada.
