After a 5-year break, regular Yak-40 flights are being restored in Russia's Far East between Blagoveshchensk, Zeya and Tynda. The option of air travel is welcome as prior to this, the only means of transportation to Zeya was by river or by car on a gravel road, and by train to Tynda, over the last five years.
The flight is being funded by the Tynda Administration, which has allocated funding to partially cover the cost. It will be operated by Blagoveshchensk Airlines, a small regional carrier with a fleet of 2 Yak-40s, 1 Tu-154, 2 Mi-8s, 3 Mi-2s and 1 An-2, reported to be in very poor financial condition.
The airfare is Rb800, or Rb200 more than the cost of a trip in a sleeping compartment from Blagoveshchensk to Tynda.
