Bad day for Krasair

Tu-154 makes emergency landing after hydraulic system failure (211 words)

Published: 7/23/2001

It seems that the problems of the Tu-154M continue with Krasnorarsk Airlines (Krasair) reporting that a Tu-154M belonging on to the airline and carrying 152 passengers, made an emergency landing at Krasnodar Airport on the 20th of July. The cause of the landing according to Svetlana Volodina, of Krasair, was the failure of the aircraft's first hydraulic system after taking off from Krasnodar. The crews were alerted to the problem by alarms after take off and returned to Krasnodar. For Krasair, the incident comes after another emergency landing involving a Tu-154 earlier in the day, due to the shut down of an aircraft's third engine because of system alarms relating to fuel problems. The failure of the hydraulic system is currently being investigated, but it would appear anecdotally that the hydraulic systems of the Tu-154's in particular do have recurring problems. These have been subscribed to low temperatures. Although this was not the case this time as it occurred close to the ground in the middle of Russia's summer. The event did however, require Krasair to reassure all passengers yet again, that they were not at risk and re-iterate to the flying public that the delayed passengers all chose to fly later with Krasair such was their confidence in the airline.
