According to Sergey Rudakov, General Director of Domodedovo Airport, after showing increased international traffic through the airport prior to the end of August, the airport has seen a decline in September and October, although he reports that Russian traffic has been only slightly affected.
Rudakov also says that the airport is in talks with a number of airlines over possible moves to Domodedovo from Sheremetyevo, citing British Airways, KLM, Finnair and a number of Russian airlines, with the expectation that at least one will move by the summer 2002.
Rudakov said that the airport's owner, East Line Group, is continuing to expand the facilities at the airport, with construction work underway to provide a separate arrivals and departures area and to increase the available area in the international area by threefold, in addition to further infrastructure development both in the terminal and on the tarmac.
