ASCO project in Poland

Published: 10/29/1997

The ASCO or Air Sovereignty Operations Centre programme is being carried out by the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia. Poland is looking to speed up the development of the programme. Credit from the US is being sought to cover the purchases of equipment which cannot be manufactured locally. The creation of new Central Military Air Traffic Commanding Point has already been initiated. ASCO is focused on the creation of a modern ATC in Central Europe allowing member countries effective collaboration with NATO and Eurocontrol. In 1997, Lockheed Martin won the contract to supply equipment to the countries engaged in the ASCO project.(IN1097.10) (MM)
