Transport Minister argues for delay
Published:
4/7/2000
It seems that there may be some discord within the Bulgarian government regarding the sale of state owned Hemus Air, which operates out of Sofia.
According to reports, the Minister of Transport, Antoni Slavinski opposed the sale this year, arguing that the airline should be financially stabilised before it enters the privatisation process. His view is not shared by the Privatisation Agency, which has commenced the process of privatisation, although the initial documentation is not completed yet.
Hemus has a fleet of nine aircraft including 2 LET L-410s, 2 TU-134A and 5 Yak-40s serving destinations in and out of Bulgaria. During the crisis surrounding the privatisation of Balkan Airlines, it was suggested that it might become the country"s flag carrier and inherit its A-310s.
